 California Golf - Santa Barbara
Santa Barbara county boasts six public 18-hole golf courses, four of which are within a half hour of downtown. Three of these four boast championship level play. The fourth is one of the busiest municipal courses in the country (and some years THE busiest). There are also excellent 9-hole courses with practice facilities open in the evenings.
Each of our city's golf courses is nationally recognized in its own way. They each offer their own flavor and personality ranging from the formal sophistication of Glen Annie to the amazing beauty of Sandpiper to the mountain privacy of Rancho San Marcos to the timelessness of Santa Barbara Golf Club. They offer a range of prices to suit most budgets and are blessed with year-round play.
Santa Barbara California Golf Courses:
Whether you are a full-time or part-time Santa Barbaran, a golf expert or a golf neophyte, you must experience this course at least once. The odds are good you'll be back. Why?
The Sandpiper says "Santa Barbara" like the Courthouse and El Encanto, like Stearns Wharf and State Street, like hiking and surfing, like fabulous wines and ..well...great golf.
The Sandpiper stands out as pure "Santa Barbara" for three reasons.
Drawing its inspiration from the rich history of the Santa Ynez River Valley, Rancho San Marcos spectacularly captivates the natural beauty and distinctiveness of its surroundings. Built on the site of a historic ranch, circa 1804, this Robert Trent Jones, Jr. designed gem gracefully saddles the natural topography meandering amidst a plethora of ancient oaks, and preserved traces of 19th-century adobe structures and the rugged San Marcos Stagecoach trail. With no pylon or dwelling in sight, a naturally-relaxing experience is generated from the course’s stunning views of the Santa Ynez Mountains and sky blue waters of nearby Lake Cachuma, often circled by soaring eagles.
